Description:

PathGroup is seeking an AP/CP Board-Certified or Board-Eligible Pathologist to join our collegial and growing team serving an extensive regional health system in East Texas. This is a full-time position offering a diverse general surgical and cytopathology case mix, with opportunities to participate in academic, quality improvement, and research initiatives. You'll practice in a busy, well-established referral center with strong support from PathGroup's subspecialty experts across our national network. The incoming pathologist will join a cohesive, experienced team that values collaboration, balanced workloads, and professional growth.

Practice & Team Highlights

  • Join an established, respected group. We currently have 3 pathologists and are expanding the team.
  • Cases range from simple cholecystectomies to complex oncologic resections (e.g., Whipples and recurrent angiosarcoma cases)
  • Strong hemepath service, with consults and collaboration with a nearby hematology fellowship program; ideal for pathologists with interest in heme, lymph node, or molecular work.
  • Frozen sections: Average ~2 per day, primarily performed in person with increasing use of Grundium digital technology anticipated
  • No autopsy requirement.
  • Call is equitably rotated among the team for weekday and weekend coverage. Approximately 90% of calls involve minimal activity, typically limited to phone consults or specimen handling questions.
  • High-volume, robotic bronchoscopy lab with EBUS and ablation cases provides excellent exposure to advanced pulmonary pathology.
  • CAP-accredited lab, dedicated histology and cytology teams, and a transition underway to digital pathology (slides processed in Dallas for morning review).

Key Responsibilities
  • General surgical pathology and cytopathology sign-out
  • Participation in multidisciplinary tumor boards, case conferences, and quality programs
  • Laboratory oversight, QA/QC, and liaison work with hospital/clinical staff
  • Medical Degree (MD or DO) from an accredited institution
  • AP/CP Board Certification or Eligibility
  • Texas medical license or eligibility required
  • Strong diagnostic acumen and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Experience in academic, hospital, or reference laboratory environments preferred
